While you check around for GPS devices for the road, you will likely bump into a couple of brands and find yourself confused about which device to buy. This is especially difficult when you are searching for something focused on affordability and portability. The variety stocked in your local store might not be very comprehensive, which may lead you to search on the internet and hope to find more options. From there, you’ll be astounded at the number of GPS manufacturers are actually available. Navman GPS products are among the manufacturers that you won’t hear about very often since they have no shops in the US, but plenty in the the British Isles and Australia. Still, this company’s latest inventory of GPS systems appears rather impressive. Another great model to consider is the Garmin Nuvi 1200 Portable GPS Navigator.

Navman F15

The Navman F15 looks to be the single Navman GPS unit that is being sold in the US and, as one would imagine, US maps including Puerto Rico are provided. Although the Navman F15 is not quite a widescreen GPS unit, the 3.5” touch screen combined with its uncomplicated user interface render this product a very user friendly product overall. Setting  up the device turned out to be less complicated than many other GPS models, which normally call for some fiddling just for the unit to work in the manner you need it to. These two characteristics clearly define the F15 as a handy device for beginners to introduce themselves to GPS navigation while driving.

However, the navigation abilities of the device may let down some consumers because it usually won’t be as accurate as the other US-based GPS devices on the market. There will likely be a few instances when you seem to go around in circles, but you’ll hear many reports of the Navman being spot-on, so it may depend on the destination you have chosen. The points of interest may include the usual restaurants and gas stations, but the amount of POI’s that come with the map are rather anemic compared to the amount of data that US-based GPS manufacturers provide. The abbreviated battery life might be a setback as well, but may be understood owing to the fact that this specific GPS unit isn’t that expensive. Setting aside the negatives, the Navman GPS is still a practical investment because of its simple user interface and applications and its ease in calculating the most direct route and finding addresses.

Navman S35

The S35 provides the same 3.5 inch screen as is used on the F15, and the frame looks rather good looking and it is still nicely portable. This is an Australian exclusive, offering over 500,000 points of interest within the country and includes the text-to-speech engine which correctly pronounces street names in an Australian accent. It also has a mileage expense reporter that is great for people who want to manage gasoline costs more conveniently. The most current maps of 2008 are automatically included.

Navman S45

The Navman S45 has the same set of applications and aesthetics as the S35, although the screen is bigger; measuring 4.3 inches. In spite of the widescreen feature, the model appears relatively portable. A comparable model is the Garmin Nuvi 1200 GPS Navigation System.

Navman GPS units are restricted in their range of variety, yet they all endeavor to be both portable and trustworthy. They reached their goal in keeping a nice looking and portable design, but the product could stand some advancements on the accuracy side.
